Journal Overview

What is The Warfighter Journal?

The Warfighter Journal is a Service:
The Warfighter Journal is a Veteran owned and operated multinational digital information service that works to provide educational and informational tools to the world’s allied Warfighters.

The Warfighter Journal is SME Veterans and highly experienced Civilian Professionals:
The staff and contributors of The Journal includes verified Veterans and credentialed experienced professionals who live and work within their own communities, and are located worldwide. Some individuals are still actively serving members of their respective military forces/armed services, others are Veterans still serving the nation in one way or another, still others are retired Veterans still active in the Veterans communities… What is important to keep in mind with this, is that some of our staff and contributors live, work, travel to, and report from volatile, and sometimes non-permissive areas. Therefore, to provide for their protection, individual locations, contact information, and full identities will not be disclosed to the public. We appreciate your understanding in this matter.

The Warfighter Journal is YOU:
The Journal is a multinational community of Military Service Members, Veterans, Professionals, and like-minded individuals who have a real need stay informed, a drive to continue their personal and professional development, and who genuinely seek to engage with information and the community. As a member of The Warfighter Journal Community, you may openly engage with our staff, our contributors, and other members around the world for the purpose of staying informed, the open exchange of relevant information, active participation in education, and much more. However, in that, we do request that you remain respectful of others, and our policies at all times.

The Warfighter Journal is NOT for EVERYONE:
It is an unfortunate reality that there does exist a large number of nations, groups, and individuals out there who do seek to bring harm to others. Their ideas, methods, motives, political biases, lack of ethics or standards, and even beliefs are not acceptable, nor considered compatible within a global community. As Veterans, we have committed ourselves to a lifetime of service to provide for the protection of our own, our families, our friends, our neighbors, our allies, and our way of life. And while many of us may not be actively engaging in uniform anymore, the oath we all took to provide for those protections has no expiration date. Therefore, please understand that there are quite a few nations that are not authorized, nor permitted, to start, open or maintain an account with our service.

The Warfighter Journal does not authorize the disclosure of any information on this system or from this system to any individual, group or nation involved with the promotion of terrorist activities, criminal activities, etc. As such, we would like to inform you that we have taken precautions to black-list and block all attempts to access our systems, and/or sign up for our services, from entire nations. Any individuals from within these nations will not be able to join The Warfighter Journal. We ask that you (the user) help us in providing for our community’s protection by refusing to offer any information to anyone suspected of criminal activities, to anyone from a black-listed nation, and by reporting suspicious activity immediately to an administrator or moderator.

What is the purpose of The Warfighter Journal?

The Purpose of The Warfighter Journal is to be a source of well-researched, fact-checked, well-written, and fully cited and referenced information. The Journal is a platform that hosts the works of each individual contributor – each of whom retain full credit for their works – so that we may bring to our community real analysis that drives critical thinking and personal growth.

Additionally, The Journal is designed to promote user-driven, self-motivated, continuous personal and professional development for Warfighters and Professionals alike. This includes current service members, Veterans, and civilian professionals interested in both improving themselves and staying informed.

What does THAT mean?

That means that BOTH Journal staff AND members alike have the ability to produce content for publication on the site and drive engagement. It also means that the Journal is a community where new ideas and critical thinking come together for the betterment of everyone involved. Finally, it means that the content produced on The Warfighter Journal is unique in the aspect that it contains both thought provoking information and referenced and cited research-based material that is designed to promote educational and informational engagement.

In short, The Warfighter Journal provides real analysis to its subscribers from a warfighter perspective.

The Digital Community

Let’s get down to the nuts and bolts of how the service functions, shall we?

Our site has been designed to aggregate information according to categorical topics. This makes it easier for our writers, editors, and contributors to place information in a consistent manner, and deliver it to the community.

At the top of the site, you will notice a menu bar with tabs and topics. These are all “Feeds” that display stories and articles according to the distribution system in an easily understood way. All new stories will pop up on the home page, and at the same time feed to their respective sections.

Our posts are divided into (5) basic sections: PAO, TOC, Analysis, Bulletin, and Radio.

PAO is our Public Affairs Office, and information posted here will often cover Press Releases. Sometimes we may release a story or piece to the open public as well. When this happens, it will become Declassified and released by PAO accordingly. Finally, under the PAO tab is the public “About” page for the Journal.

The TOC is the “Tactical Operations Center”, and is an outlet for The Journal Senior Staff, as well as for submitted Letters to the Editor. Journal Authors can be found here as well.  Additionally, when our editors find a story, submission or article that they find especially interesting, they may select it as a Staff Pick. These pieces will become Featured Articles and highlighted for the community’s enjoyment.

Analytical Articles are factual, research based, and sometimes opinion/thought-provoking pieces written by our writers and contributors. These are the “Bread and Butter” of the site, and are the MOST IMPORTANT aspect of The Journal. They are generally longer pieces used to provide more in-depth information and analysis on certain topics and subjects, and serve the purpose of education and in-depth community conversation. Their purpose is to create conversation, spur further research and analysis, and drive individuals towards self-motivated personal and professional development.

The Bulletin Board covers Situational Reports (SitReps), Interest and Opinion articles, news specific to the Veterans Community, and member War Story submissions. These stories/articles have no length restriction, and can sometimes become short series pieces, but the intent is the same, to provide for community engagement.

Warfighter Journal Radio shows and posts can be found under the Radio tab. The Journal’s radio programming is an additional method of educational and informational engagement. Warfighter Journal Radio is comprised of various different shows – each with a different topic and purpose – and all shows are open to the public.

Explanation of sources

The Warfighter Journal gathers information from academic primary and secondary sources in order to research and produce the best content possible for our members. Remember, our job is to educate as well as inform. That means we use university library resources, academic journals and databases, reputable internet sources, and other reputable information sources in our research and media production process.

As far as news stories go (SitReps), The Warfighter Journal gathers information and generates content through the use of primary sources (Boots on the Ground… that includes YOU…), and secondary sources (Authorized Aggregation Services). This means that we employ members, contributors, and staff members in key locations around the world who all write and report from their physical location, and we also distribute information via authorized information distribution networks.

What does all this mean for our community?

This means that our community gains exclusive access to information that our contributors and staff publish here, and here only, and to which no one else has. Next, it means that is able to bring you information you would not normally have access to within your own area/country because either A) the main-stream media refused to cover it, and/or B) because it was not made available where you live, and/or C) because you may not have access to the primary or secondary resources to locate the information in the first place.

Finally, this also means that is a one-of-a-kind community and the only dedicated digital information service of its kind!

Once again, Welcome to The Journal! Thank you for joining the community! We look forward to serving you the best we can, and hope you’ll grow to take pride in growing with us along the way.
